Leading is hard work. This is the message I deliver to high-potential leaders when I am debriefing their 360-degree assessments with them. What makes leading so hard is the broad range of competencies required to be an exceptional leader.

The most effective leaders can communicate, motivate, inspire, delegate, have difficult conversations, set a strategic direction, align people around the vision, hold people accountable, hire, fire, coach and develop, listen, be empathetic, show appreciation, address problems, make hard decisions, implement and manage change, build teams, and more. Given what it takes to be a great leader, it is not surprising that one of the top concerns for many organizations is developing leadership bench strength.

The challenge is all these competencies do not come naturally to anyone. Every great leader has worked to develop those competencies that don’t come naturally. Fortunately, there are effective tools available to support the development of leaders. One of the best, in my opinion, is the Everything DiSC® suite of products.

The Everything DiSC model is a tool for helping leaders understand themselves and others. When the model is incorporated into applications specifically designed to build leadership effectiveness it is especially powerful. Here is an overview of the Everything DiSC programs for developing high-performing leaders.

Everything DiSC® Work of Leaders

Using the framework of Vision, Alignment and Execution, Everything DiSC Work of Leaders explores 18 leadership best practices and shows participants where they fall on the continuum. The profile also includes an optional section on DiSC and provides information on the participants DiSC style. Work of Leaders is a tool designed for more senior managers and leadership teams and with individuals identified as high potential leaders. It can be used as a coaching tool to help leaders identify their strengths and understand where they have growth opportunities or as part of a strategic planning session to create a vision for an organization or team. The model can also be incorporated to help support a change initiative.

Everything DiSC® Agile EQ

Everything DiSC® Agile EQ™ supports leaders in reading the emotional and interpersonal needs of a situation and responding accordingly. By combining the personalized insights of DiSC® with active emotional intelligence development, leaders discover an agile approach to workplace interactions and learn to navigate outside their comfort zone, empowering them meet the demands of any situation. Agile EQ can be implemented as a training program or used to support one-on-one coaching.

Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict

Everything DiSC Productive Conflict helps leaders develop self-awareness around destructive behaviors commonly used in conflict; manage these behaviors; and engage in more productive strategies. This is not a conflict resolution tool. Rather it is a model for understanding how thoughts and behaviors are contributing to the situation and adopting more resourceful approaches. Once leaders understand the model, they can assist their teams in developing more resourceful approaches to conflict as well.

Everything DiSC® Management

Everything DiSC Management uses the DiSC model to help managers increase their effectiveness in the areas of delegating, developing, and motivating their employees. It helps participants understand how to adapt their approach when managing employees of different styles. It can be used with front-line supervisors and managers, as well as mid-level managers. It is a great tool to use with new supervisors or managers and as a coaching tool with managers, especially those who may be having difficulty adapting their style to the needs of those who report to them.
