April Message from Julie

Gratitude and Grace. That has been my mantra the last few weeks as we in North Texas as well as most of the country and much of the world have lived under a stay at home order of some sort.

Gratitude for the healthcare workers who provide care to those in need under very difficult situations and the staff at all essential businesses that bring us those things we need to continue living a somewhat normal life; for the technology that has allowed us to stay connected and to continue doing business at some level; for the generally nice weather we are having in North Texas and for the greenbelt near my house where I can continue to walk; for the dog I adopted last year who keeps me company; for the team of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program that has collaborated and adapted so we can finish the current cohort virtually; for the scholars and alumni of the GS10K program who have supported each other and inspired with their resilient leadership; for the Yoga studio where I practice that is continuing to offer live Yoga classes via video conferencing… Those are just a few of the many things I am grateful for.

And Grace to remind me to act on my belief that everyone is doing the best that they can right now so I can resist the temptation to criticize, complain and blame. My hope is that we can all give each other a little bit of Grace as we navigate these uncharted waters.

I have been inspired by and in awe of the resilient leadership being exhibited by so many. So, we are celebrating resilient leaders and leadership through our blog posts and social media. To kick of the celebration, we are featuring the leaders (and owners) of two North Texas businesses, Samantha Martin owner of The Mat Yoga Studio and brothers Brent and Juan Reaves, owners of Smokey Johns BBQ. You can read their stories in the Celebrating Resilient Leadership article.

If you have a story of resilient leadership that you would like to share please contact me so we can include you in the celebration.

With Gratitude and Grace,
